This wasn’t part of the plan…but I’m so glad it happened!
This was my first solo 15-mile hike. I planned everything—my route, my snacks, my pace. I was ready. I was in Glacier National Park, and I was going to hike the Highline Trail to Granite Park Chalet and back.
Then, ⅔ of the way in, I met a couple from Ohio who told me about Grinnell Glacier Overlook and the epic view it had. I’m a sucker for epic views, but the climb looked brutal. Still, they kept insisting that I could do it—that they’d do it if they were in better shape. I really debated it, but there was a pull, and I felt like I’d regret it if I skipped this. So, I decided to just do it!
I took one step at a time and plenty of breaks. When I made it to the top, this was the view! It was way better than anything I had imagined. I’m so glad I met that encouraging couple and that I listened to that pull.
Sometimes the best experiences aren’t in the plan at all. Have you ever listened to a pull, taken an unexpected detour, and ended up somewhere amazing?
