It's Okay To Stand Out

This piece is a reminder to myself that it's okay to stand out and be seen, not just by others but by myself.

During a fall foliage trip, this tree immediately caught my eye as I came down the mountain on the ski lift. Its golden leaves stood out against the dark backdrop, making it impossible to ignore. The way it stood alone, so visible yet out of place, resonated with me. As I painted, I realized it was more than just a tree—it mirrored my own struggle between wanting to be seen and wanting to stay hidden, both from others and from myself. It’s that feeling of standing out but wanting to retreat when the spotlight feels too bright.

In the end, this piece reminds me that it’s okay to stand out—not just for others to notice, but for me to embrace as well. Sometimes, acknowledging my own visibility is exactly what I need.
